Mount Prospect, IL, July 19, 2022 – In lieu of being able to publicly present its annual high school scholarship program, members of the Mount Prospect Lions Club personally visited four recipients headed to college next month to award a total of $10,000.
This is the third year in which the Lions Club has bestowed this amount of scholarship funds, an increase of $1,500, or 20 percent, over previous years.
In existence since 1993, the Lions Club’s scholarship program bestows: The George Gattas Scholarship in memory of this past president of the Lions Club, former athletic director and educator at Prospect High School; the Tim Murphy Scholarship, past president and long-time chairman of the Scholarship Committee; and the Mount Prospect Lions Scholarship, in honor of all members who have passed away. The 2022 awardees are (photos on page 2):
- Kate Braverman, recipient of the first of two Mount Prospect Lions scholarships awarded in 2022. A Prospect High School graduate, Ms. Braverman will be attending University of Dayton this fall.
- Alyssa Dymond, who plans to attend William Rainey Harper College, also received a Mount Prospect Lions Scholarship. She is a Wheeling High School graduate.
- Delaney Nold, a graduate from Prospect High School, received the Tim Murphy Scholarship. Ms. Nold will be attending St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN.
- Etienne Sirois, who received the George Gattas Scholarship. Mr. Sirois, a graduate of Prospect High School, will be attending the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana.
These outstanding recipients were among numerous students who applied. Selection of the final winners was determined by a committee of Mount Prospect Lions Club officers, and awarded based on the following eligibility requirements: A resident of Mount Prospect, a current graduating high school senior, shown evidence of academic achievement, accepted to an accredited institution, and exhibited participation in community service or school activities.
“We had plans to recognize our scholarship recipients on the 4th of July at the Mount Prospect Lions Club’s Festival in front of our entire community,” said Scholarships Committee Chairman Rockne Bork. “However, despite the cancelation of the final day of that event, we were still very pleased to honor these four very deserving individuals. Please help extend our sincere congratulations on behalf of the Mount Prospect Lions Club.”
